Author: Stan Andrews
Subject: Christopher Rowbotham & Ann Rowbotham (nee Andrews)

Christopher Rowbotham was born in Knottingly in 1851.He married Ann Andrews in Goole in 1871.William Andrews,a prosperous Ship's Rigger from Liverpool, was Anne's father and is my third great grandfather.
Christopher started his career with schooners and became in 1879 Master of the ketch called the "Princess"(Official No.67828)built in Goole.William Andrews owned shares in the ship but when he died in 1898 he left some of the shares to my great grandfather, Arthur Horatio Andrews who sold them to Christopher.
In 1908 Christopher Rowbotham took his sons William Christopher and Farnill into partnership as C.Rowbotham and Sons. They opened a new office at 19 Dunstan's Hill, London and the company continued to grow.Christopher died in 1911 and Ann Rowbotham (nee Andrews)and his sons were the executors of his will.Ann was living in Stafford House,Grove Park,Kent at the time.
The Rowbotham Company expanded and owned many vessels by the time it was taken over by The Ingram Corporation of New Orleans in 1970.
The insurance side of the business went into liquidation in the 1980s according to information I have found on the internet from PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
I have researched articles from shipping magazines to find most of the information recorded here, but I would particularly like to hear from any descendants of the Christopher Rowbotham family who could, perhaps, provide me with any further information on Ann Rowbotham (nee Andrews)
or William Andrews and Arthur Horatio Andrews. It is most likely that photographs or paintings will exist of Christopher Rowbotham and his family and, naturally,I would
particularly like to see copies of any evidence of my ancestors if they became available.
Thanks to anyone reading this letter who thinks they may be able to help my research.
