Keso let go of the doe's leg, eyes wide, staring at the dead animal. It both scared him and made him proud that he had helped taken down such a large animal. Usually, he only got a small rabbit or two once in a while. But this. This was a deer. He had always dreamed of taking a deer. In a way, though, it scared him. He did not know he had such a power in him to help defeat an animal such as this. He looked over at his father, licking the blood from his maw.

Akira went down with the deer, keeping his weight on her. His jaws sank deeper and deeper into the flesh and blood. It oozed out and covored his maw, and stained the virgin snow. The warmth of the blood turned the snow into a slush around the kill. When the doe died, Akira did not move for a moment. He stood, paws holding its head down, and teeth locked onto the animal's throat. His thick silvery pelt, now flecked with blood, bristled madly. Then he let go and stumbled aside. The pain in his stomach radiated, and his breathing was ragged. His head hung low, and he stumbled.
Keso looked at him in alarm.
"Father?" he asked. "Father, are you alright?"
