She watches carefully, then takes the whetstone and knife from Darshea and clumsily tries to sharpen the blade. She grimaces as it slips, but continues, her strokes becoming more and more sure as she continues. Not taking her gaze from the knife in her hands, she answers the question, her tone muted, knuckles whitening as she grips the implements tightly.
"My da had a small holding, but it was in an area some other lord wanted. My da was wealthy enough for the size of what he had, and made the lord angry by refusing to sell him one of his best broodmares. The lord had a larger force of men and killed my family. From what I'd been taught, I was able to escape, but could do nothing else." Catching her lower lip between her teeth, she stops and shrugs her shoulders. "There was nothing left for me there, if I'd stayed, I'd a been killed too. This was the first ecent place I've come to, so I stayed."
