Subject: Re: IMS Twin Turbo 128 With OS X
In reply to: Dom 's message, "Re: IMS Twin Turbo 128 With OS X" on 22:34:52 12/29/02 Sun

I have a PowerTowerPro 225 which is upgraded to a G4 400 with a Sonnet Crescendo card.
I am using the IMS Twin Turbo 128 to drive an AppleVision 1040? 17 inch multisynch monitor.
I have OS X 10.2 and it seems to work fine at high resolutions apart from sometimes it boots up in 640x480 greenovision mode, in which case I usually have to reboot into OS9.1 which resets the resoultion to 1280*870 (I THINK) or whatever I want to change it to.
If I then reboot to OSX it's usually all fine.

I did have another monitor card installed for a dual monitor setup this was a different card a Proformance Formac Imagine 128 II in another slot but this caused Mac OS X to always crash in startup, so I have regretfully removed it.
I have not however tried it on it's own, It should be fine really, as it's a more modern faster card than the original twin turbo.
Maybe they conflict.

Going back to the Twin Turbo 128 - it always looks bad when booting up the system, It looks like when you restarted your ZX Spectrum in 1983, those vertical black and white lines with some noise, but it always sorts itself out eventually.

Also try to use one of the top slots in your mac for the video card, why I don't know?

Also
I have a Sonnet Tempo ATA 66 pci card for using ATA hard drives, with the capacity for running four ATA drives, I have two 80GB and 40 GB although I had to format one with an 8GBpartition to run OSX successfully (WHY?)
I am also using Firewire and USB upgrade cards that were very cheap to buy (from a PC fair) but work just as well as any more expensive "made for MAC" PCI cards.
I have a Yamaha CDRW 16 speed SCSI which had no indication that it was able to be used on a Mac, but it works fine.
I also use a Belkin Wireless Router which is half the price of an Aplle Airport base station.

N.B. I do own a MAC laptop, and intend to buy from Macintosh next time. I do think they overprice some of their parts though.
