In reply to: Katie 's message, "I've tried out for a couple plays..." on 07:52:25 10/13/02 Sun

Except at my school/s, it's the teachers who play favorites. It didn't used to be that way, but when the amazing drama teacher left the middle school (she also helped out with the HS), the choir teacher took over directing the plays. He does have a lot of drama tech experience from before he decided he wanted to pursue music, but really, a choir teacher? You can imagine how those plays went. All the leads went to the choir stars who couldn't act if their life depended on it. They were dreadful. Not to mention the fact they all had very choir-esque voices that could barely be heard in the front row without a mic.

Then the HS's drama teacher got pregnant last year and is on maternity leave, so this year's casting was interesting. All the leads went to the students the replacement already knew. And not from another play, mind you. She'd just met them while she was helping out Mrs. Banke to learn what to do. Pathetic, really. I'm hoping there's a way to work around driver's Ed, so I can try out for Guys and Dolls, but it's not looking good. :(
