Haiku, standard, free-verse, what? And do they have to be by published authors? Here's a couple.

Life lived as a show
The curtain draws and lights dim
The end of an act

Or this that'll be going on my suicide picture soon (NOT a drawing of me, nor is it a cry for help. Why does everyone think that?)

To the void from which I came
I take my life in Heaven's name
To ease my guilt and kill the pain
Mere existence, lived in vain.

Nothing given, nothing lost
Everything taken, aside it's tossed
Every bridge I've already crossed
Now I stand and pay the cost.

Under the blade, too soon to tell
If any value's left of my soul to sell
But with one breath I bid farewell
And soon escape this living hell.

That may be just a tiny bit too heavy for a school assignment, but you never know. I'm seeing a theme in these. They aren't exactly about rainbows and butterflies, are they? lol Oh well. Maybe I can dig up something a bit more lighthearted, but I doubt it. I do have a few more haiku's if those'll work and you like that sort of thing. The suicide one may eventually be turned into a song with a bit more added and some revision so that every 4 lines don't rhyme. lol
