because the brain can't handle anymore ;)

Since Arafat is NOT and has not been in control of the most violent elements of his people, how could anyone in good faith be expected to negotiate with him? He may in fact be the de facto leader of the "people", however, since the Hamas (which is an arm of his Fatah movement) and the Hezbollah (which is Lebanon based) have refused to ever acknowledge Isreal's right to exist, did he EVER have the ability to make promises of an end to the violence? It is not the everyday Palestinians who are committing these acts, but people who say they are doing it in their name. (Seems like Osama tried to nose in on that one too there at the end)

The smart thing to do, in my mind, would be for Isreal, Syria and Arafat jointly to declare these organizations terrorists, and ALL go after them.

That would be the smart thing. It'll never happen. But it would solve a lot of problems.
