My niece has watched MTV practically every day of her life since before she even started school. She just finished an MA and is working as a child advocate in the county court system.

She dresses like a prep and takes a bath every day. She goes to visit her grandmother on a regular basis and does volunteer work with local children's charities.

I think she turned out okay. Other than the fact that she gives money to the alumni association at Ole Miss, that is.

:) :)

Bob Pittman, the co-founder of MTV and current Big Guy at AOL-Time Warner is from the same town I'm from. When I was in college I worked as a DJ at a local radio station. It was my first job. It was the same job that Pittman had as his first job.

He slips me cash to say good stuff about MTV and AOL.

And one of the other losers from my home town is Bernie Ebbers of World Com. I dunno what we done wrong for them boys.

--An excert..

"That maverick streak ultimately drove Pittman out of Mississippi. He was ashamed of the way blacks were treated and, as a teen, vowed, ''I'm getting the hell out of here,'' he recalls. At 15, Pittman found the exit by accident while looking for a job to pay for flying lessons. After being rejected by the local Piggly Wiggly supermarket for a bagging job, he took a post as a deejay at Brookhaven radio station WCHJ-AM."

--The Piggly Wiggly was across the street from the radio station. All he had to do was look up when he came out of the grocery store to get the idea of being a DJ.

--He was in my brother's class in school. Both of my brother's worked at WCHJ right after Pittman left. I worked there probably ten years or so later.

--He was one of the wild-ass preacher's kids in our town. We resembled him for that.

--I used to have a bunch of Piggly Wiggly lighters that I gave to friends who didn't believe Piggly Wiggly was real. I'm fresh out. I'll get some more next time I go to Brookhaven so I can mail them out. Sadly enough, Hattiesburg has no Piggly Wiggly.

--In the early 80s when Bernie Ebbers asked my father if he could borrow $10,000 to help start a new business, my dad laughed and turned him down. :( My sister married someone who said yes to that deal, though. :)
