I've seen it five times, and it is set in Mississippi btw, not Missouri. It's the most realistic movie set here I've ever seen.

My fav line was from Holly Hunter: "I have spoken my piece. I have counted to three." Clooney knew he was screwed.

Back in September, my class had just read a paperback of the Odyssey, and our regular textbooks had still not arrived. I showed them this movie, and we talked about everything they took from the Odyssey. Laughed their asses off the whole time. I heard them in the halls singing "you and me and the devil makes three" for weeks afterwards.

Did you catch that the KKK scene was the same one as the "trip to the underworld" in the Odyssey? I had one big, hulky black guy who laughed so hard he had to get up and go out in the hall before he peed his pants in class.

Some of the humor you probably have to be Southern to get. And some you have to have the Odyssey memorized to get.

I can pretty much lay claim to both. That movie rocks!

I'm about as southern as you can get considering I grew up in rural Bama. I read the Odyssey in highschool so I noticed most of the allusions. I just didn't think they did as good a job as some other rewrites of classic literature like the 13th Warrior. Maybe it's just because I don't care for Clooney either.

Clooney and me go way back. Sent him a fan letter once that said "lick ya all over for dime and a kiss."

(Calm down Kevlish. That was a joke.)
