Subject: OMG. Look what the teenagers have started doing.

Prince Harry has returned to Eton, following a
day at home in the wake of newspaper
revelations that he had smoked cannabis and
drunk alcohol to excess.

The 17-year-old prince spent Sunday away
from his boarding school, with his father and
elder brother at their Highgrove estate in
Gloucestershire.

He is said to be embarrassed and upset about
revelations in several Sunday newspapers
about him smoking and drinking last summer.

--------------------------------------------------------

How many of those reporters do you think never got shitfaced when they were seventeen? Why is this news? Give me five minutes, I'll get you about a thousand stoned teenagers.

I just hope the Bush girls didn't smoke the good stuff before Harry got a chance. Gimme a break.

Around here, we don't even bother to take their fake IDs away. They just drive across the state line if we do. I'm guessing Louisiana has checked about five IDs in the last thirty years.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating raisng a bunch of potheads, but let's get real. They are seventeen. You did it. I did it. The nun across the street did it. Get over it.

And to paraphrase something someone famous once said, "If you don't sample mindless sex and drugs at least once when you are young and free, you have no heart. If you continue to sample them indiscriminatly when you're older and married, you have no brain."

I never drank or took drugs. I got a couple piercings and I tried really hard to get pregnant (being facetious) until I did. Miscarried at 12 wks. Probably a blessing. My friends drank but none smoked pot.

Now in my own house ..my middle sister was hooked on speed and cut on herself and my brother smoked pot and drank. My little sister pierced everything but managed to stay sober.

That kids do this crap shouldnt be a shock to anyone. That is makes news at all is amazing. Except these are famous people and for some reason that is supposed to make them less susceptible to human frailties I guess.

Well, maybe I was a little quick to speak for others. Suffice it to say, drinking, drugs and other nefarious activities are commonplace among the seventeen set.

I couldn't do anything that showed--my Daddy would have beaten it off of me. That left a puff here and a swig there as the only viable alternatives for rebellion. Once I got this really weird haircut and tried to die my hair purple, though. The hair they just finished removing from my head right down to a perky little pixie look. The purple didn't show up anyway cuz my hair is too dark, and I didn't know you have to bleach it first if you want to turn brown to purple.

To this day, I only have one set of holes in my ears, and those are asymetrical because of the distinct lack of funds available to a wilful pre-teen. I did find someone with a gun to do it, though. I refused to go with the ice cube and needle approach--the main reason I never got more than one set.

I was hell on flip-flops in those days. I stole my Daddy's razor to shave my legs when I was eleven. Left cuts all over my legs. Still have the scars. I give my nieces electric razors for birthday presents when they turn nine. My parents freak, but it is very difficult to cut yourself with an electric razor.

I tell everyone I skinned my knees a lot falling off a horse and a bike. It gives the scars a sexier spin. :)

And I have fallen off some horses and bikes in my time at that...

I have teenage nephews who are an endless source of amusement. One day in class one of my students said, "Ms. Gerald, I saw your nephew Andrew at a party this weekend. But he wasn't drinking, I swear."

I laughed and said she was a little too quick with that info, and she'd probably told me more than I needed to know.

Of course, with that sort of ammunition, I did the only thing I could do and immediately high-tailed it over to my sister's house to pick on my nephew. When I said Jackie told me he'd been drinking at a party that weekend, his ears turned orange and stayed that way for a week.

Another nephew, Dusty, plays baseball for the high school team. One day Dusty's dad said at the dinner table, "Son, I talked to your coach today."

Dusty said, "It wasn't like that, I promise. You have to listen to my side."

Although Keith, Dusty's father, had actually only briefly run into the coach and not even talked about Dusty, he said, "Okay, let's hear it." After which Dusty proceeded to spill his guts about an unfortunate incident that got him grounded for a month. We haven't told him yet that he ratted on himself.

Actually, I think I scared the bejeezus out of Andrew. I told him there was nothing he could do that my elaborate network of spies would not see and report.

I told him if I ever heard he got in a car drunk or with someone who was drunk at the wheel, I'd beat his ass to China and back.

So far, so good.

hee hee.. my sister did that hair color thing. And I am guessing you and she must have the same basic hair color. Purple wasnt working so she went onto BLACK. Not just any black but a color my mother calls to this day "Morticia Black". She also has several scars on her from pierces gone wrong. Her eyebrow skips a spot where it got infected is the most obvious one. I lost count on ear pierces. nose pierce.. hmm.. others I cant think of.

I have one cartilage pierce (long grown over) and a belly button one that was done long before belly button pierces were "cool". After the twin pregnancy (14 lbs of babies and ruined abdominal muscles) and the subsequent weight gain that one is bye bye too. *sigh*

How could you not use ICE!?! OMG!! that just makes me hurt all over agin thinking about it! You are better woman than I am Gunga-din ;)

It was one of those quick pop jobs--like yanking off a toe nail. No ice required.
