I have been blessed with fairness and, although unmeasured, I am of petite stature. For three glorious summers I have romped these lands. I was named for the tremendous floods which I was born in. I am of silver brumby origin, my genitors being Son of Storm and Wingilla. The sun’s warm light has gilded me with gold dust, and a phoenix’ feathers have burnished my chocolate mane. Sunbars and streamers of gold dwell in my amber eyes, eyes which have witnessed many great happenings. My personality is like a sunbeam, filled with warmth and happiness, forever dancing, forever spreading joy.

As the sun bid the world farewell.
As the party was coming to an end and the light began to fade,
a final spectacle was sent forth as a lasting reminder of her presence,
of her relentless guardianship of the world.
It was to be her greatest show of the day.
A display of fireworks before the curtains of night were drawn.
The finale.

A bewitching call seeped through the forest like sunlight, casting everything in its path in a warm glow and leaving a trail of shimmering gold dust wherever it went. It danced and capered between the tallest branches, ruffling the frail leaves, forever climbing upwards. Eventually, it shot up into the warm autumn air, riding on the wind and spiralling towards the sun.

Shafts of sunlight, woven with the finest threads of gold, draped the forest with transparent curtains of captured light. The fragile veils rippled in the breeze, cascading from the heavens like waterfalls of molten gold. Beams of sunlight, like dancing spotlights, lit up fragments of dust, highlighting each particle a fiery orange, filling the forest with clouds of frantic fireflies. The air, rich with the tangy smell of sap, seemed to vibrate with life. Large, furry bees hummed softly to themselves as they went about their daily chores. Birds chattered noisily, squabbling over food and screeching insults at each other. Small animals scurried in the dense scrub, rustling the autumn leaves, which carpeted the ground with fire. A wind picked up, allowing the leaves, like flames, to dance wildly, licking up the gnarled roots of the ghostly snowgums. And from the blazing forest floor, a mare was conjured, appearing suddenly from the flames. She spun through the forest like a whirlwind of fire, a flurry of confused sunbeams. Golden wattles spangled her chocolate mane and tail. She plunged through the delicate veils, ripping them. She danced headlong into the clouds of shimmering gold dust, and, eventually, her slender bodice was showered with the golden powder, each particle a shining sun.

A thick web of trees barred her way and she skidded to a stop, sliding through thick drifts of auburn leaves. Disturbed from their slumber, they scratched at her tail angrily, writhing between the chocolate hairs. She tossed her mane impatiently, and a storm was created in the calm sea of lapping waves. Huge mahogany rollers crashed and hurtled, droplets of chocolate spraying everywhere. Slowly, the golden filly ploughed through the great piles. The turmoil of unsettled leaves formed a cloud of fire around the mare and she snapped at the dancing flames playfully as they twirled haughtily out of reach. Eventually, the leaves left her, losing their grasp and spiralling wildly into the shadows. Her coat bathed in buttermilk and her mane and tail burnished with gold flakes, she became a bar of glittering sunlight, flickering against the pale snowgums as though golden thread was woven around the slender trunks. And the beautiful, golden filly disappeared, lost among the beams of sunlight in the honey painted forest.

The sun sank in the sky, its head falling beneath waves of churning gold, slowly drowning in a pool of molten lava. The sea of boiling caramel bubbled, creating swirling tide pools. Trickles of blood seeped into the caramel, like tiny rivers, as the sky turned red with rage. Clouds were highlighted a brilliant yellow, like streamers fluttering in the wind, dying sunrays or even bars of glittering gold. A desperate cry was emitted from the waning light, from the ever-growing shadows. The call coiled upwards, searching for the sun. It crept towards the dying light like a month. For a second, it was showered with gold dust. Then, as the light finally disappeared, it fell wildly to its death and was smothered by the shadows of night. The filly was gone. No longer would the forest rejoice her glorious presence. The finale was over. Darkness descended.
