  Looking for information on Ellen McAuliffe from Cork who married Michael Buckley abt 1863. As far as I know they had two daughters Ellen & Mary. Ellen Buckley married William Hepburn (Heypburn) 1874 in Glasgow, Scotland and Mary married Archibald Pearson 1872 also in Glasgow. Ellen McAuliffe name on the marriage certificate of Ellen & William 1874 is spelled McCallum but her death certificate shows spelling as McAuliffe. I can't find the marriage certificate of Michael Buckly and Ellen McAuliffe on any site. Getting information on my Irish ancestors is very frustating.

  This comes from the March 16, 1916 Northfield News, Northfield, VT
  
  (William McAuliffe was married to my gr grandfather's 1st cousin.)
  
  William McAuliffe, one of Northfield's long time and highly respected citizens, passed away at his home on Summer street, Saturday after a long illness. Mr. McAuliffe was in poor health for some time and had been ill for the past two years, and it seemed advisable to have a surgical operation performed, which was accomplished last week without relief and he died soon after from complications.
  
  The deceased was born in Ireland, 78 years ago, coming to Northfield when he was 17 years old, and had spent his entire life here since that time. Mr. McAuliffe is survived by one daughter Miss Bridget McAuliffe, who tenderly and faithfully cared for her father during his last illness, his wife and other children having died some years ago.
  
  Funeral services were held yesterday morning from St. John's church, Rev. J. A. Lynch officiating, burial was in Calvary cemetery, the bearers were J.C. and J.M. Donahue, Morris Ryan and W.J. Kingston. There was a large number from out of town here to attend the funeral.

  Northfield News, March 14, 1916
  
  William McAuliffe, only son of John and Elizabeth McAuliffe, whose death occurred March 4th, was born, June 10th 1838 in Youghal, County cork, Ireland. He came to Northfield, July 3d, 1854 and has since lived in town. He was married Nov. 12, 1860 to Miss Bridget Sullivan of Northfield, who died Sept. 18, 1871 and to them nine children, were born; three died in infancy, Elizabeth, John, dennis, Hannah and Francis lived to young manhood and womanhood and then answered the Saviors call. One daughter Bridget, survives him.
  
  Mr. McAuliffe was out of health for nearly two years, he suffered an attack of pneumonia the first week of November from which he did not recover, being confined to his bed 18 weeks. Mr. McAuliffe was honest and upright in all his dealings and held the trust and esteem of the community in which he lived for 62 years.
  
  Those from out of town to attend the funeral were James Hennessey, John McAuliffe, Patsy McAuliffe, Mrs. O'Brien, Mrs. Murphy, Bellows Falls, Mrs. Dan Sullivan, Katherine Sullivan, Mrs. Mary Donahue, Miss Doris Donahue, White River Junction, Charles Corry and wife of Middlesex, Mrs. A.E. Smith and Thomas Donahue, St. Albans; Mrs. Catherine Glenn, Annie Glenn, Joseph Coates and wife, Miss Anst Ryan, M.J. Doyle and wife, Charles Paige and wife, Mrs. R. Roache, Mrs. Catherine Currier, Mrs. Cherror, Caserine Currier, Josephine Sploid, Montpelier; Curnice Lawrence and wife, Barre.

  He may not have had any brothers, but the two McAuliffes from Bellows Falls, VT indicate he must have had some male cousins he was close to.

  What about those of us who are stuck with 2 L's in our names? We seem to be outcasts! It is an uncommom, but not unheard of variation here in the US. Two little branches of my husband's family use this spelling, while some of his family use McAuliffe with one L. My husband's great,great grandfather was Denis McAuliffe. His great grandfather was also named Denis McAuliffe and married Catherine Flynn on Feb. 28, 1865 in the Knockanore Roman Catholic Church records, Waterford Co. Ireland. They had at least 3 children; Dermot, Mary, and my husband's grandfather, Robert, who came to the US. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? We would love to contact any other decendents of the above. We are going to Ireland in November for the first time, but don't really know if we will get to persue any family history.   My great Grandmother was Mary Ellen McAullife of Louiseville Ky. Her Father was John her Mother was Ellen. I found their burial plot at St. Louise Cemetary in Louisville and have some more info but would love to find out more. Mary Ellen married my Great Grandfather Nicholas Smith originally (Smyth). He was born in Ireland. Mary Ellen died soon after her last child was born. Her family didn't approve of the marriage. One of her daughters worked at Churchill Downs and two of her four children were raised by family in Hammond Indiana. Any info would be appriciated

  I have hit a brick wall with my Robins/Robbins family research. They came to Australia from Liverpool England 1833.
  My ggrandparents William Robins/Robbins & Joanah/Johanna Graham settled at Penrith in nsw AUST. On Williams death certificate Johanna is listed as Johanna McCauliffe however on her sons wedding certs, she is Johanna Graham. Their second son was named Philpot John Curran Robbins in cognisance of a male relative on the maternal side of the family (stated in his wife's obituary)...said person John Philpot Curran, Orator. All these names are common to Cork, Ireland...however I have not been able to connect. If anyone has found any of these names in there researching I would be most grateful for any help given.
  Perhaps McCauliffe is the name of Johanna's mother or perhaps Williams mother???? Mary T.

  I am looking for information about a Julia McAuliffe who according to her obituary was born in County Cork and arrived in South Australia in 1857 per the Royal Albert with her parents. Julia married Philip Callary in South Austraia. Julia had a daughter Ellen Josephine Elena Callary who married William Joesph Martin.
  According to Julia's marriage cert her fathers name was Humphry. Julia's obituary also states her surviving family was 3 sons and 2 daughters- Messrs Philip Callary (Hawker), Humphrey Callary (Canowie) , Thomas Callary ( Yacka) and Mesdames AJ Graham (Hoyleton) and E MArtin (Farina).
  Shipping records for the Royal Albert do not list Julia and her parents.

  I'm an Australian desendant of a John McAuliffe who was born in Cork in 1836 too Michael McAuliffe and Johauna Moriaity. John came to Australia on the King of the Ocean and later married Ann Condron (Born Kilkenny 1842). John died on the 26th August 1907.
  
  Not much to go on, but if anybody could recommend a starting point for a search of the Irish side of the family it would be greatly appreciated.

  I am the great, great, granddaughter of Mary Margaret Josephine McAuliffe who married Luke Davey c1860. I have not been able to establish exactly when either came out to South Australia, but The SA Biographical Index states:
  DAVEY, Luke, married Mary Mgt. Josephine [nee] McAULIFFE / McCARTHY ch:John [1862]William [1871] and Mary Mgt. Josephine [1873]
  
  A Mary Margaret Josephine McAuliffe arrived on the 12 August 1855 on board the 'Aliquis' , a 21 year old domestic servant from Cork. Mary therefore was born approx. 1834. According to Mary Margaret Josephine's death certificate it seems more likely that she was born approximately 1841/42, so this may not be our Mary.
  
  A 'No record' result was received from South Australia re Luke and Margaret's marriage, but from their death certificates it appears that Luke was 25 and Margaret was 20 at the time of marriage.This substantiates Margaret's birth being approx. 1841/42. Once again from Margaret's death certificate it is stated she had been in the country a total of 51 years,being 67 at the time of her death this would indicate that she was 16 when she arrived in approximately 1857.Would appreciate any feedback on Mary.

  A new page in the genealogy section will contain a table list of researchers (anyone enquiring about ancestors is a researcher) with e-mail addresses for contact. I'm reluctant to copy from here to there because of e-mail privacy considerations so until I've worked out a suitable submission form you will need to email me with your information to be included in the list. The list will have the advantage of being alphabetical by ancestor's first name. It is, I hope, a small start toward eventually having a searchable database. The new page can be viewed here. To start, it's only got one entry (mine), so send me your details and they can be added.

  I am the daughter of George Currie McAuliffe B: Nov. 14, 1917 D: July 1990. He had a Sisters Mary, Ann, Gertrude & Brothers: John, Jimmy, and Edward.
  
  I had the opportunity to meet My Aunt Ann, Aunt Mary and Uncle Edward once when I was 18 but didn't get to know them very well.
  
  Uncle Edward was working on our family tree, I don't know how far he got before he passed away.
  
  I do remember him saying that General Anthony McAuliffe was their Uncle.
  
  I would like to more about my history and family my father kept from me by stating "His family was dead"...I believed this up until I was 17 when my Uncle Edward attended my mothers funeral.
  
  Then shortly I attended Uncle Edwards funeral.
  
  I would love to meet more McAuliffe's and learn our history.

  Hello everyone, I'm looking at doing some more research into my family. My father is Richard Benjamin McAullife who had a brother and father both named Thomas Willard McAullife, I know he my dad had an aunt named Faith McAullife as well. He grew up in Narberth Pennsylvania and he said his Father and his uncle Joe owned a Roofing Supply company of some sort, looking to see if anyone out there is familiar with this family so I can get in touch with any family I may have and learn more about the history behind us.   My g-grandfather David, son of Daniel left Limerick for England in early 1850's. Was married to Margaret Jones, also of Limerick, d/o John in Spanish Place Chapel, Marlebone, Middlesex in June 1853 and had two children who died in infancy. Emigrated to Ontario, Canada where eldest child was born in 1857. Marriage record does not indicate mother's names.   Does anybody have information about the family - parents, brothers and sister, ?children - of the lightweight boxer Jack McAuliffe (he's on the McAuliffe Clann hall of fame)? He was born in March, 1866, probably in Cork, came to Maine as a child, and died in Queens in 1937. He had at least one brother, "Con" who's mentioned in news stories about him.   Iam an Australian McAuliffe seeking any information on Terrance & Ellen McAuliffe(Ireland) that i can get, especially the names and birthdates of all their children and their decendants.I know that two of their son's Henry( born around 1823) and Thomas McAuliffe were placed befor the Clonmil Magestrates Courts on the 20th of July 1840 for "failing to compel to quit". and were sentenced to seven years goal, to be transported to 'Van Demans Land'
  They left Dublin on board the prison ship 'Egyptian' sometime in August and landed in Hobart, Tasmania on the 12th of Dec 1840.They served their sentence in the logging mills in Tasmania and both were free by Certificate on the 20th of July 1847.
  They travelled to the mainland of Australia on the 18th of August 1848 and after looking around for a while and gaining employment the two met two irish girls Margaret and Bridgett O'Brian.Henry married Margaret and Thomas married Bridgett.Both families settled in the Glenrowan area of Victoria.
  Iam the great grandson of Henry and Margeret.Iam Very proud of our McAuliffe Name and History.

  I was doing some research when I ran across your posting concerning your father. My mother, Rose Marie McAuliffe (Sellers) and my aunt, Lillian Ruth (Commordore) who reside in Lexington, KY. are the daughters of Aland E. McAuliffe, my grandfather. I have a little information regarding your father's U.S. Marine Corps service. I also served in the USMC from November 1995-September 2000 with honorable service.   Legend has it that one of my Franklin ancestors was presented with a sword and a gun by Napolean. The earliest Franklin we can trace is William Alieffe Franklin born about 1770/80s. Since then every generation has included the name of Alieffe in their children's names. We think there must be an Irish connection as we know that many Irish fought on the side of Napolean against the English.

  Hello, I was Born and raised in Michigan. My father was William T. McAuliffe also born in Michigan who has passed away. My grandfather was born in Ireland and came to the United states at 16 and joined the United States Army. He went back to Ireland as a United States soilder and gathered his Mother and 4 brothers and brought them to the United States and settled in Michigan. Due to a family indifference prior to me being born, I never met any of my relatives who probably only live a couple miles away from me in Michigan.   My great grandfather Michael married Maria (Mary Glinn) 9/19/1857. 6 children, Hanora, John, James, Helen, Thomas, and Maria (Mary). John & James (my grandfather) immigrated to U.S. no later than 1882. John went to Boston area for a time. In 1945 Mary, last name Quinn, lived on Wolftone Street, Kilmallock. James married Julia Hennessey (from Limmerick, the city) - 3 children, James, Jr., Thomas (my father) and Maugarite. Would love to learn more.

Name shown in Toomna Church cemetery as Catherine, but name on my grandfather's death certificate shows Susan. She was married to James Musgrave in 1878/79. Children were: William Robert, George Auliffe, b. Feb. 8, 1880, May Jane, Eliza Ann (Annie), Susan, James, John Edward (Eddie).   Looking for info on Michael McAuliffe bc1811 and his wife Julia Canty (or Cantey) from in, or around, Duagh in county Kerry, Ireland.
  
  Michael and Julia had one known son (I'm sure there were more!), Thomas b1831 who married Mary O'Keefe b1833 in Abbeyfeale, county Limerick in April 1858. Shortly after their marriage, Thomas and Mary emigrated to Australia and settled around Jamberoo on the south coast of New South Wales. I have lots of info on the family once they arrived in Australia, but nothing on them in Ireland.
  
  Has anyone come across either MICHAEL McAULIFFE or JULIA CANTY in their research?
  
  Their birth dates are circa 1811 or earlier. Marriage date circa 1830 or earlier. (Dates based on son Thomas' confirmed birth date.)
  
  Duagh, co Kerry, and Abbeyfeale, co Limerick, are town names that appear on various documents.
  
  (The parents of Michael and Julia's son Thomas McAuliffe's wife, Mary O'Keefe [or Keefe] were Phillip O'Keefe and Catherine Morrisey [or Fitzmaurice] who also lived in, or around, Duagh, co Kerry.)
  
  Besides "Michael", "Thomas", "Mary" and "Julia", other family names through the generations include Catherine, John, Francis, Daniel, Gabriel and Elizabeth. Families usually kept using the same first names, so these might ring a bell with someone.
  
  I'm sure that there were other McAuliffe siblings to Thomas (being good Catholics!). Perhaps some of them emigrated to the US or Canada??
  
  Look forward to hearing from someone who knows more about Michael and Julia and/or their children!

  he was in the services. worked on the rail road, and
  at truck driver. he was born oct. 7 1904 died in april
  1981 buried at fort leavenworth cemetry. I dont know

  I am wondering if anyone has any information on a Jack McAuliffe from Kansas. He had a daughter with Estella Frances Wiley on February 1936. The daughter's name is Phyllis. • John McAuliffes: IRE to Dutchess Co, NY to Brooklyn -- Laurie, 02:56:09 09/27/06 Wed
  I am seeking 3 generations of John McAuliffes. The grandfather was John McAuliffe, bca 1820 IRE, married to Catherine. They came to the US around 1848 or earlier with their eldest children. Settled at Red Hook, Dutchess Co, NY, where the 3 youngest children were born. Children include John, Maurice, Mary, Bridget, May, and Alice. John worked for the railroad.
  
  Know nothing about son John, but he is presumed to be the father of the grandson John.
  
  Grandson John was born 1878 in Dutchess Co. He lived with his grandparents in the 1880 census. By 1900, he lived in Brooklyn and worked as an oysterman in a restaurant. He married Margaret Heaney a few years later and they had twins John Francis and Alice Marie. John Francis died before his first birthday in 1906. Margaret died in 1910. In the 1910 census, John was working as a clerk in magazine advertising. Living with him was Margaret's brother and a boarder.
  
  Little Alice grew up in an orphanage. She was told both her parents had died while she was young. Thing is, I can't find a death record for her father. However, I did find a John McAuliffe in the 1920 census in Brooklyn who was the appropriate age, a broker for a steamship company. He was married and had a 4 year old daughter named Catherine (if this is the same John, she could have been named for his grandmother who raised him!). I backtracked and tried to find this second John in the 1910, but could not find him, stoking my suspicion that this might be the same John.
  
  Does anyone know anything about these Johns? All help much appreciated!

My paternal Grandfather was George Robert McAuliffe b 4th August 1913 d4th april 1982 married to Lillian Maud Manning b 30/03/1913 In london, they emigrated to Australia in approx 1949/1950. settled in South Australia in Pinaroo, then later Kimba, and eventually Adelaide. they had 4 children 3 boys, and 1 girl, Graham Robert m Viviane, children Dahl, Brenda, Michael, Lee, Ryan and Shannon.

  I am looking for any information on a Tim McAuliffe born in Cork area about 1840. He married a Julia Reardon in Ireland and had two sons Dennis b1864 and Timothy b1870. They then moved to Bedwelty area of South Wales and had another son Michael born 1874.
  
  When they first moved to Wales they shared a house with Michael Keef and his wife Mary and their 6 children.

  Hey McAuliffes ! My greatgrandfather was Thomas James McAuliffe.He was born on 8/15/1875 I believe near Olean N.Y. but passed away in Bradford,Pa. on 7/30/1951. I'm trying to find any relatives. I know he had 2 brothers, James and John ,and 2 sisters, Anna and Maggie. I have several newspaper articles on his rescues of 2 women in Olean ,N.Y. around 1895, but I can't find anything on his mother & father .   My maternal grandmother,who died giving birth to my mother 84 years ago, was born Jenny McAuliffe (spelling may be wrong!)in the village of Ballydesmond, Co.Cork. She did the unforgivable thing in those days and married a Scottish Presbyterian man. (It was also unforgiveable for him.) His name was Malcolm Graham and he was a shipwright working on the Clyde (we think he actually worked on the Titanic). They were very happily married despite the parental opposition and had six living children. My uncles Malcolm, Alex and Angus, my aunts Marie and Rachel, and my mother, Margaret. He agreed to the Catholic Religion's terms of bringing the children up as Catholics, but insisted on them all having Scottish names! He relented with my uncle Angus and allowed him the second name of Patrick because he was born on St Patrick's Day! My grandfather died shortly after my grandmother. I was told it was of a broken heart. I have always wondered if there are any relatives of my grandmother in the Ballydesmond area. If anyone has any information I would be thrilled.   In his book "Irish Families" Edward MacLysaght claims "the famous French physician, Joseph Oliffe (1809-1869), was born in Cork, his ancestral name being MacAuliffe".
  
  Does anyone have information that might help verify this? I wonder if this might have been the author's assumtion, or what might have been his source for this information.
  
  Might there be any documented material somewhere in the written histories of the Clann MacAuliffe regarding Joseph Oliffe?
  
  Is there any truth to the belief that many MacAuliffes anglisized their names to Oliffe/Olliffe by influence of the English, or when migrating to foreign countries?
  
  Clearly the name MacAuliffe has long been an established surname in the county of Cork. It seems there was a small concentration of Oliffes in and around the plantation areas such as Bandon, in that time period as well.

  Do any of the McAuliffe Clan know of John McAuliffe, born Cork, Ireland, in 1830 and migrated to Australia in 1845 on the "King of the Ocean" Ship. He later married Anne Condon of the Bacchus Marsh district and lived at Readsdale. He died in Rochester at the age of 77 in the year 1907.
  Would anyone know if he had any Brothers or Sisters or who his Parents may have been.

  I was doing some checking and I find it interesting that my fathers name was Daniel Joseph McAuliffe and my Grandpa's name is John McAuliffe. They were from the Midwest area. I also have one more question, is it true that 7 brothers all with the name McAuliffe traveled across the ocean to settle down in the U.S. and then went there seperate ways. Just wondering.

  Dearest McAuliffs around the world,
  my name is Maureen I live in Ottawa, Ontarion, Canada.
  My Great GrandFather Patrick McAuliff or(McAuliffe) came to Canada and apparently settle in Valleyfield Quebec Canada.
  He Married Cathrine Austin, they had apparently 3 children,
  one of then my GranFather James McAuliff born in Valleyfield
  in 1904, march 1.Our family never was able to trace back any
  roots,...until I today on this site,..I will share this discovery with my family,...I am the 3rd generation of McAuliff in Canada,..I recently painted a mural in Valleyfield ,Quebec,.. and I am very proud that signing this mural brought back the McAuliff name to the land of my ancestor, unfortunatly my great GrandFather left any trace of him to be found. I have faith,..and I am determined to find him,..Any secrets or links!?Thank You in Advance!

But I am looking for a sure link to Eugene McAuliffe who married Catherine CORKERAN and had three sons in Dromtarriff, Co. Cork: Malachy, William and John.   Looking for family information on my great great grandfather Patrick McAuliffe and his wife Hanorah O'Sullivan. My great grandmother Margaret McAuliffe was baptized at the RC Church in Boherbue in 1847. Patrick and his wife and two daughters (Margaret and Anne) emigrated to San Francisco around 1861. Margaret married James O'Dwyer and had 10 children. She died in Burlingame, California in 1927. Her sister Anne married William Gleeson and died in San Francisco in 1917.

  Looking for my grandmother's sister/s. My grandmother, Ellen Mary (Nellie) Walsh, nee McGrath, had a sister, whose christian name is unknown, and is supposed to have become a Mrs MCAULIFFE, and lived in County Wicklow. She had several children, some were teachers and 2 sons went to New York and worked as detectives in the NYPD. I have few details on the family.
  Her maiden name would have been McGrath and she would have been born in Cahir, County Tipperary, between 1870 and 1878. Her parents were Francis McGrath and Mary O'Hallorn. Francis was transferred from Cahir Co Tipperary to Mountrath Co. Laois, during 1881-1885 with the Royal Irish Constabulary. Her only brother, John McGrath, became Brother Baptist with the Patrician Brothers in 1885. She had 2 other sisters who became nuns. One may have taught in the UK and the other in France. My grandmother immigrated to Wellington, New Zealand. 1900-1902, where she had cousins by the name of O'Connor.

  I'm searching for relatives. My G.grandfather was Jeremiah F. McAuliffe b. 1852 in Ontario, married Catherine Ann Maley in 1896. I believe Catherine Maleys family were part of Peter Robinson Irish imigration to the county of Peterborough, Ontario in 1825. Catherine & Jeremiahs children were, James, Mary Veronica, Hannora, John Henry (my grandfather)& Edward. Jeremiahs' father was John McAuliffe he married Margaret Fitzgerald and their children were Cornelious, Malachi, Hannah, William, Catherine Jeremiah & Mary. Margaret Fitzgerald McAuliffe was born in C. Cork Ireland around 1816.

  Hi All, I am looking for info on my grandfather Cornelius Aloysius MCAULIFFE, probably born in Lawrence MA, and married to Mary Josephine Fox also in Lawrence around 1911. There were many brothers, most who ended up in the Boston area. He was city controller in Malden MA as well as working in I believe South Market in Boston as perhaps an accountant. I am really stuck here, as I have few of the siblings names. One was a Boston policeman fired during the strike of 1920 (?). His name was Arthur and lived in Dorchester MA.
