Currently your 'W' key is bound to 'Drive Cam Forward Run' which means that when you press it, your characters -runs- forward.
Go to Options ---> Controls ---> Camera Keys (whatever the name is).
Somewhere down to the bottom is the option to bind a key to 'Drive Cam Forward'. Just bind it to the 'W' key, and from now on you can use the W-key to walk instead of run. When you DO need to run you can use the mouse. I find it very, very easy to use and it gives you a quick way of switching between walking and running.
Also, it allows you to keep -walking- backwards. With Detect mode enabled you kind of stagger backwards instead of walking backwards.
