I was trying to make a way to have it possible for you guys to create magic items in the next campaign. Fortunatly, Veth had already done some leg-work along these lines some time ago. I'm only going to be adding to it some. At any rate, I think this will add some interet to the campaign and make for some interesting team played player generated quests.

Any character may attempt to create magical items but they must go through this process.
a) tell the DM exactly what kind of item you wish to create, or better yet create it in the toolset and send me the .erf file.
b) Come up with a plausible reason why your character COULD create this item. Obviously, your character wouldn’t be able to create an item which casts fireballs at 1st level, or adds a knockdown feat if he/she doesn’t already have it. You can only imbue items with spells, spell levels, feats, skills and other attributes which your character already has some knowledge of.
c) Find a tome of instruction within the town for making this item. (I will have a number of standard magic item creation tomes throughout the town. A character will have to buy, steal or trade for it.)
d) You will be required to buy any logical components which would go into making the item, for a magical sword, you would need, obviously, a sword, for a potion, a flask and some herbs.
e) Take game time to create the item. PCs may work together to create these items. In which case, when a roll is required, the higher one will be taken. For example, a warrior may step in to put the weapon together and a rogue might help to decipher the instructions.
f) All the required ingredients will be destroyed.
g) Roll an intelligence check of 10 to make sure you understand the instructions.
h) Roll a concentration check against 14 to make sure you can keep focused.
i) Roll a dex check against 10 to see if you can physically put the item together. With the following additions based on the item being created.
Potions + 1
Armor & weapons + 4
Wands & jewelry + 2
j) Roll a spellcraft check to actually create the item. Generally, the one shot or usable items will have a difficulty of 20, while permanent items will have a DC of 25, plus the following:
Per 5 charges + 2 DC
Per ability bonus + 3 DC, 100 XP
AC bonus + 1
Bonus Feat + 2
Bonus Spell Slot + 1
Cast spell + 2
Immunity + 3
Damage Reduction + 2
Per effect spell level + 1
Light + 1
Skill bonus + 1
Save bonus + 1
Damage bonus + 1
Have made item before - 1
k) The whole process will cost the final creator an amount of XP equal to the items value in gold / 4.
l) The possibility of a catastrophic failure also exists. If you roll a natural one on any roll the whole project fails. If you fail the last step, I will make another roll to see if something bad happens (details to be worked out). The something bad will depend on what you are trying to make. Say you’re trying to make a magic sword and you fail miserably, there exists the possibility that your soul gets trapped in the sword. Or if working on a potion, you might just end up with a d100 explosion.
