Subject: What is a remake?
In reply to: Helmut Brandstetter 's message, "Top 40 Acts with only Remakes" on 12:21:13 10/13/02 Sun

On one hand, I get what everyone is at here, but I guess we need a working definition of "remake."

I had always figured a "remake" was when someone hit the top 40 with a song that someone else also made the top 40 with, otherwise it's a "cover" version.

If that's the case, then Laura Branigan has NO remakes. "Power of Love" by Air Supply failed to hit the top 40. Otherwise we could say that Elvis is the all-time remake king as he never wrote any of his own material (at least the vast majority of it, anyway).

I think the all-time remake king and queen would be Donnie Osmond and Linda Ronstadt, although Mariah Carey wouldn't be too far behind.
