24,000 XM Radios Under The Christmas Tree

That's how many receivers the company estimates were given as gifts during this holiday season, and while those sales will push the number of units sold by Dec. 31 to XM's year-end target of 350,000, the company says lag time for new activations will limit the number of active subscribers by year's end to 340,000- 350,000. Still, XM believes most of those receivers not activated by the end of this year will be up and running within the first two weeks of 2003. XM VP/Corporate Communications Chance Patterson tells R&R the company believes it will have 1.2 million subscribers by the end of next year. "We're looking for a big 2003," he says.
