Interesting that this question was asked at the time of the XM Radio AT40 marathon. The question of shortest #1(not necessarily on AT40 but in the history of the Billboard Hot 100)is notedin the March 15, 1980 show that I just heard and copied. I will have to go back and actually listen to the show again to find out how long it was but the song was "Stay by Maurice and the Zodiacs" and was answered at some part between #20 and #11. Unless there is a song that is shorter since that date, "Stay" would be the shortest #1.
