Subject: The Strange Status of "I Melt With You"

This song is one of a very interesting group. There are a few songs that never came close ot the Top 40, yet literally everyone knows them. This has always been one my all time faves and it always struck my as odd that even though this song peaked somewhere in the 70's on the Hot 100 in 1982, eveyone I meet seems to know it. It is included in nearly every 80's compilation. Can anyone explain such a phenonenon? Anyone care to name a few other records that may fit in the same category? I have a few other examples but will wait until you guys have a chance to throw in a few of your own.
