In reply to: JB 's message, "Most Top 40 Hits From One Movie Soundtrack" on 18:58:38 03/07/03 Fri

Although the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack contains at least seven songs that hit the top 40, "Boggie Shoes" by KC & The Sunshine Band and "Disco Inferno"by The Trammps previously appeared on albums by these two artists and did not originate from the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack.
Only five top 40 songs originated from the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack: "Stayin' Alive," "How Deep Is Your Love," "Night Fever," "If I Can't Have You," and "More Than A Woman."

On the October 25, 1980 show, Casey Kasem correctly noted that the "Urban Cowboy" soundtrack set the rock era record for having produced six top 40 songs:

1. "All Night Long" by Joe Walsh (# 19)
2. "Could I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray (# 33)
3. "Look What You've Done To Me" by Boz Scaggs (# 14)
4. "Lookin' For Love" by Johnny Lee (# 5)
5. "Love The World Away" by Kenny Rogers (# 14)
6. "Stand By Me"by Mickey Gilley (# 22)

Four years later, the "Footloose" Soundtrack tied "Urban Cowboy's" record by also producing six top 40 songs:

1. "Almost Paradise" by Mike Reno & Ann Wilson (# 7)
2. "Dancing In The Sheets" by Shalamar (# 17)
3. "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins (# 1)
4. "Holding Out For A Hero" by Bonnie Tyler (# 34)
5. "I'm Free(Heaven Helps The Man)" by Kenny Loggins (# 22)
6. "Let's Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Williams(# 1)

Since 1984, I do not believe any other soundtracks have tied or beaten the records set by "Urban Cowboy" and "Footloose." Can anyone think of any that have?

Andrew
