AT40 during the '80s was when they would occasionally
play different mixes or versions of a song while it
was charting.

Yeah, I was listening to the September 14, 1985 "Dead Dog Tape" edition of AT40 (as heard on AT40 Flashback in 2001) yesterday and they played the extended version of "Freedom" by Wham!, with the trumpet solo at the end. The only version that 80's stations play anymore is the original one. I was surprised to hear the longer version of "Freedom"
(Please note: I just now discovered this because, on the original run of this show, I wasn't yet listening to AT40 and didn't get to hear the Flashback version during its broadcast, due to the fact that the air traffic ban and slowed mail service due to the events of September 11, the station I listened to FB on didn't get the show. I received the show at the end of last year and didn't get around to listening to it until yesterday.)
