KKYS "Mix 104.7" here in Bryan/College Station, TX regularly screws up the countdown (American Top 20 -- Hot AC version). Segments are played out of order, some other random song starts playing simultaneously with a song on the countdown, 25 minutes of commercials are played and then a song not on the countdown in the middle of the show before the countdown finally comes back with segments skipped, America's Top Hits daily feature starting randomly in the middle of the second hour of the show, stopping then the previous AT20 segment repeated. If there is a live person in there, they must resemble Mr. Magoo. If, as I suspect, it is a royally screwed up computer program trying to run the show, then somebody needs to get the virus out.

2 out of the last 3 weeks, KMVL in Madisonville has had problems with their running of AT20 (AC version.) A couple weeks ago, they played hour 1 correctly, but then after the newsbreak at the top of the hour, played hours 2 and 3 from the previous week. With as little movement as there is on the AC chart, I probably wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the fact that I had heard the previous week's show and the exact same Elton John story for the extra "Bennie & The Jets." Then just yesterday I was listening and the #6 song "Bring On The Rain" by Jo Dee Messina was interrupted halfway through, and abruptly an American Top 20 jingle was played and the voice of Casey came on to introduce I Need You by Marc Anthony at #5. Again, might've been just thought of as a simple CD skipping ahead if it weren't for one important thing...Casey was off this week! After #5, the extra "America" was played "on this 4th of July weekend" What?? Heh heh, must've been a loooong weekend! ;) Last week's show played until the final segment. #2 and #1 were actually the correct segment played with Ed McMann returning to the mic! heh heh, but those 2 1/2 others proceeding it were not heard. Since part was skipped, the show didn't last up to the top of the hour when ABC News is usually played, so there were several minutes of dead air until it appears either someone in the studio or an automatic anti-silence device flipped over to the ABC network for what I guess is their constant news stream.

Really makes me wonder whether this automation is any better than just having a dopey high schooler running your board. ;)

later,

Jeffster :)
