I agree with Darren's comments about AT 40 abruptly chopping songs. Strange that they somehow found time to play "extras," yet sacrifice songs in the regular countdown.
Go figure.

Anyway...I recently encountered two instances where AT 40 played longer versions of songs in the "AT 40 Archives." On the 1-20-79 show, they played the full 8+ minutes of "American Pie" as the first Archive Song. In fact, Casey Kasem even teased this song by stating that we would be hearing the song that edged out "Hey Jude" as being the longest playing # 1 song. This was the only time that I have heard Casey Kasem "tease" an "Archive Song" and give the full story behind an "Archive Song" before playing it. The other instance was on the 2-02-80 show, where "AT 40" played a great long version of "Don't Leave Me This Way" as the last "Archive Song" on this show. I am pleased that "AT 40" decided to play the longer versions of these songs..they were a real treat to hear.

Andrew
