It's hard to put down all the information here, as it basically comes from a lot of different episodes.

Pish [the Collector] had access to the book because he's one of the 'bad' Collectors using knowledge for power.

You'd need to [re]watch "Its Hour Come Round at Last" "The Widening Gyre" "Pitiless as the Sun" "In Heaven Now Are Three" "Soon The Nearing Vortex" "The World Turns All Around Her" to name a few for clues on Trance's past and the Magog History. Too much information has been spread out over the past four years that you have to string together.

Try the episode synopses for some of the eps. I haven't kept up with them though since season 3's "The Right Horse". It could help though.
