Yes it makes sense. Online fandom is a double edge sword and one of the downsides is that by knowing all the information fans do online, it can lead to fans getting sucked into behind the scenes squabbles on a level that fans who aren't involved online often don't get drawn into.

That said, I don't blame the Internet for all of the more recent darkside of fandom - IMO fandom had that darkside pre-Internet and they just brought it with them :-(.

One of those darksides, since at least the 1980s, has been fans and SFTV show creative people (from actors to writers and producers, though I'm not talking about actors interacting with fans via their personal fanclubs - that to me is a different dynamic, separate from this) getting too chummy with each other, IMO. For reasons that have varied from fandom to fandom, the chumminess almost always turns out to implode on the fandom and the show and Andromeda turned out to follow the rule, in my book, not the exception (Farscape fandom is the exception I know of, but there may be others).

Anyway, I don't hold anyone responsible for what happened with Andromeda. When the chumminess works, it can be a great force for promoting a show and I don't believe that anyone on either side of the fence (fans or the creative people) ever really think about the downside before it happens. They either don't think it will happen to their fandom or they simply don't know that it could happen to begin with. As well, if I were close friends with the creative people and they were done wrong, IMO or theirs, I probably would pick them over the show as well. It's a case of showing loyalty to friends and maybe it's one reason I don't let myself become to close to people in the business :-(

Then Rayhanna wrote:

From what I've been able to put together, via the scuttlebutt that was showing up in soap opera magazines* and things that Keith seemed to be hinting at**, I'm of the opinion Keith re-negotiated his contract last year. If so, it's highly possible he setup the new contract to let him have a "out" clause for S4.

That said, I think Keith is leaving the show. While nothing has been said officially, enough stuff has already been dropped suggesting it could happen. So I think fans who like the show should start preparing for it to happen, whether it comes to pass or not :-/

*All My Children (his old soap) wanted him back and he seems to have used that to get a better deal with Andromeda.

** part of the new deal allowed him to lose the bone blades
