Hello!

Having just completed Season 4 on DVD, I was struck by the differences between the Star Trek and Andromeda universes. For one thing, Star Trek has an upbeat tone to it. Mankind has learned to get along with one another and although there are bad guys in Star Trek, all threats seem to come from the outside.

Whereas in Andromeda, the Commonwealth is much more fragile and the threats from within, especially in Season 4, are as big a problem as the threats from the outside.

Finally, there seems to be more of a religious tone to Andromeda as opposed to Star Trek. God is not mentioned but "The Divine" is and there seems to be a genuine grappling with morality and good vs evil in Andromeda.

Given Gene Roddenbery's views on religion, I am surprised that Andromeda has as much as it does. I suspect that if Gene were alive, he would be objecting to this kind of subplot throughout the series.

What do you all think?
