Subject: 52 Hour Symphony – Disk 1

An explanation... this piece, and the one that is to follow it, is a portrait, of lyric and verse, of 52 hours of my life... If I could show you all these scenes, the fragments of songs within the work would serve as the soundtrack. I do not use them to steal from the artists who wrote them, but rather, pay my own small bit of homage to them, in showing an instance, one of those rare moments, when your entire life, and everything in your world, is reflected back to you through music... and not in one song, but in an entire album. If you've ever listened to an entire CD, and felt like you finished a journey into your own heart, you'll understand what I mean. If anyone wishes me to list all the bibliographic information for these songs, I will... but I thought it perhaps fun to let you all try to figure out what I was listening to... And by the way, Disk 2, to follow tomorrow, will be quite a departure from this little one. Goodnight all, and thanks for bearing with me this time...
Jennie

52 Hour Symphony – Disk 1

A crowded theatre,
everyone is here;
in my old home I’m amongst friends,
or so I’d like to think.
“Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters…”
There is laughter here,
smiles like a good cup of tea,
warming your hands.
Doors groan and I feel her here,
like stone cold coffee
in my stomach;
so bitter.
“Constant chill deep inside
On they fight, for they are right,
yes, by who's to say?”
There is emptiness now,
I can’t hear laughter
As I feel hatred hurled into my heart,
I’m fading under it’s weight,
my hands searching for anyone;
“Touch me so I think I'm here…”
bring me back into the room,
all it would take is a look…
but a look you never risk,
the stakes are too high now;
“to the game you stay a slave…”
Your claim,
to be a pawn between two Queens,
under one’s command,
and at the other’s mercy.
We move you between us,
across this board;
In this black and white,
your eyes are the only grey.
“The more I search the more my need
For you,”
Praying a moments peace,
I risked the opening of my arms,
but here tonight,
“The more I bless the more I bleed
For you…”
There is a hand on my shoulder
And one on yours;
two Queens in Check.
The hand knows what I’d want,
What I’ve never said those thousand times,
“When I start to come undone
Stich me together…”
The air is heavy,
late May proving herself
no weaker than June.
I am warming again,
to windows rolled down
and the smell of damn earth.
Her chanting has grown quiet,
But will never be gone,
“pay,
pay the price,
pay, for nothing's fair…”
I know, I know,
it’s sad but true…
I want to laugh bitterly,
cackle out this pain;
strip down the Wicked Queen
thread by thread,
an unraveling of her fairy tale…
“Heavy thoughts tonight
and they aren't of snow white…”
