Subject: The Geometry of Yesterday

The Geometry of Yesterday

I tried to find you
amidst the tiers of noon.
At lunch with Dave, he ran
into Falan and they touched
through the greasy air.
They talked as I strip-searched
faces. But you weren’t hiding
under any hats, weren’t standing
behind any streamers of hair.
I left them there chit-
chatting and walked outside
into the foyer of June third.
The pillars of spring have never impressed
me. I think the finch felt
the same, scorning with his song.
Funny how I thought I’d find
you in the gazebo of the breeze.
