Today I met an outcast
And I hesitated to speak
I thought of the standing
I could lose due to
Mere association

I remembered what my mother taught me,
When I was young
That some people were
Meant to be left alone
Some creatures could wander
The city for months without
Talking to anybody and
They would be just fine

Her deep brown eyes gazed into mine
And pleaded for help
To be saved from
The everyday rustics

Mother told me that some
People enjoyed living that way
They didn't wish for anything different
They had lived like that
Day to day for their whole life

As the girl with deepened eyes
Pleaded for humanity
I hoped I could develop
A mind of my own
The more I thought about it
The more I realized my mother
Had been wrong all these years

Now, I was the only one who could save her
The one with brown eyes
That may not have shut in weeks

I'm sorry to disappoint you, Mother
