Setting Pink and Golden


I drove down with the sun
to set pink and golden in your arms;
and in those twenty-one hours
there were many mornings...
in a single night
nearly a week of waking
at your side.
Five hours have gone now
and I already miss laying in that valley
between the rising denim hills of your legs
and the freckled cream of your chest.
I miss your soft flat palms
gliding warm across my naked back
soothing me like an exhausted child;
the joyful smile music brings
to your already laughing eyes;
how you never protest,
when I mess your auburn hair;
but most of all,
I miss the wamth of your sun
spread over all these curving hills
shining into the deepest of these valleys.
