Subject: Headlights and Rearviews

There is a stretch of East David that runs
straight with evenly spaced street lights and sometimes
at night when driving this stretch I lose the slugs and snails
of kettering ohio and am driving just outside santa rosa or
through the weeping streets of a quiet el paso.
Sometimes on this stretch of East David I lose my busted
wallet with its tattered photos of friends and family, of people
who i don't know all that well but somehow aquired
their pictures. Sometimes it all falls out into the sticky
santa rosa night or under the dusty el paso moon and sometimes,
not often, but sometimes i can hear my eleven year old voice sighing
a decade ago under this sprawling night sky.
