I found myself
taking refuge in your company-
my heart slowly sufficating
in the over abundance of self pity
that you try and steer me from.

The smoke of your cigarette filled your lungs and the room-
and you howled
and talked in that accent I love
and my heart forgot to break
in that moment-
I was too lost in you.

with patience you read
"wither thou goest I will go
wither thou lodgest I will lodge
your people will be my people
your god my god."
And i was warm and safe
despite the battle beneath the wings.

You say you see god working in me
and you look into me
with those eyes that I love
to make love to
and I ache for you to be right.

I ache to heal.
But you're holding my hand
and maybe I'll be ok.
