a man gazes in
fascinated
by the blaze before him
burning hot

within he sees an ember
beautiful
he grabs it, though he knows
he should not

in his grasp
excruciating
murderous of soul
yet appealing to eyes

the pain is now
unbearable
he squeezes tighter
and loudly he cries

the man releases his treasure
reluctant
never regretful
though his folly is seen

he know he must be
patient
leave his wounds to
bleed themselves clean

it now is time to
recover
as he waits for
the damage to eschar

the pain gone, he is
healed
though he yet loves
his beautiful scars
