I have fallen from you.

I've unwrapped myself from the fingers I used to call "mine"-
maybe I cried you away from me-
washed out the smell of your skin
or the taste of your tongue in a saltine shower . . .
maybe the tears burned you away,
chipped at the shadow of your eyes
until there was nothing left but the memory of your gaze.

The memory doesn't threaten to scorch me-
not anymore.
Only to remind me of the place from which I have fallen,
and to provide me with the courage to climb again.
