fall came around
and the leaves began to drop

one by one they fell
some early, some late

the leaves fell wrong
covered flowers
caused grass to yellow
and provided shelter
for the serpent

and by and by,
the tree was bare

the wind blew the leaves
across the world

and the snow fell heavy
upon empty branches

until, the cycle complete
warmth returned

and the tree leafed out
in all it's glory

and the world was filled
with green vibrance again

the earth trembled in autumn
fearing the leaves' return

but the leaves knew now
how to fall.
