I'll never forget the way he adjusts his glasses
or the sound he makes when he chews food
the way he breathes when he's fallen asleep
or how he jumps when I stroke his thigh . . .
there are some words he'll always use,
and I know them by heart-
in addition to having memorized the exact shape of his eyebrows
or the twisted expression he gets when he disagrees
I'd recognise his voice scrambled or delayed,
know every line in his face
I know how he'll answer most questions
or what he has for breakfast every morning,
how he does what he can to help people,
and the way he laughs when he appreciates something

I'll never forget the way he touched me.
