How would I have known you
one thousand lifetimes past?
Would I have known, by passing you on the street,
the way your thigh feels against my hip
in the moments between awake and the dream world?
Would I have heard your laughter by looking into your eyes,
or the brush of our fingertips in passing . . .
would it have been the light band around each of our
left ringfingers,
that only we would see,
or maybe it would have been the way we seemed to hum the same song,
maybe you'd know when you saw me holding a child,
and I'd know when you began to sing
but we'd know, wouldn't we?
Because we'd always feel each other
in any crazy life.
