Hey all,
Tonight, a few of us put together a mass-mail to campus organizations about
both the event and the auditions-A script is attached, for those who don't yet
have it. You should all have it within the next 24 hours, if not, call my
extension at 7336 and I'll relay the information. Here is what needs to happen
in the next few weeks:
1)Auditions
These are tuesday and wednesday night, the 22 and 23, at 8 o clock. callbacks
will be at 9:30 on wednesday night. There are four of us officially slated as
directors, but until the minute casting begins, that isn't set in stone. If
anyone else would like to try their hand at directing, or would just like to
have input in casting the show, you're more than welcome to join us. The
Monologues, in addition to their message, are about pushing boundaries, new
perspectives, and exploration. We'd love to have others try their hands at
directing a monologue or vignette or two, and we'd especially love to have
people who may not have the time or resources to otherwise involve themselves
add their pespectives and feedback in casting the show. If you'd like to fill
either of these positions, contact me ASAP at x7336, via a response to this
email, or at my instant messenger sn at BigGuyJLE. As always, I'm open to
suggestions.
2)Committees
Christine has told me that everyone is signed up for varying committees. I
don't know how these are broken down exactly, but here is what needs to be done
between now and the fourteenth.
A.Advertising:Posters made for posting(ETC can pay the bill if need be, I just
need a design and then it'll get taken care of), said posters need to be
posted, a banner needs to be made/approved for hanging in the student center,
chalking approval needs to be obtained. All this, minus the chalking, must
occur by February 8th in order to generate decent buzz.
B.Tickets:Several individuals/organizations have contacted me about ticket
reservations. Until we know the layout of the Rat, we cannot as yet guarantee
any ticket reservation system. The most cost-effective method I can think of
involves selling tickets at the door an hour before show time. This would
require the manning of a ticket booth. Speaking of booths...
C.Outreach:This event provides a great opportunity for all varieties of Women's
Interest groups on and around campus to have a mouthpiece as part of it.
Showtime is at 8:30 on the performance nights; for an hour before hand, I'd
love to see various on-and-off-campus organizations/platforms on display in the
student center atrium. This has already been ok'd by Shari Blumenthal. All that
needs doing is the actual contact of organizations, to see who would/can be
interested in putting together a little bit of information for distribution
pre-
show.
These three points of interest are readily attainable. It's up to the
established committees to make inroads into these tasks. They're all relatively
time-manageable and stress-free, but if there are any problems, please let me
know.
3)Rehearsals and performances
There will be four to five rehearsals prior to performances. This does not, at
first glance, seem like a lot of time. However, when taken into account the
fact that traditionally, both professionally and otherwise, the monologues are
NEVER memorized but are read from cards, this time alottment becomes much less
daunting. The goal of these rehearsals will be in communicating the monologue
effectively, and emotionally, while also finding something unique. Memorization
will not interfere with this. So, Hakuna Matata.
The performances are thurs-sat, the 14th-16th of february in the Rat.
Preliminary Booking has been obtained; all that is now required is the transfer
of funds from my organization to the rat as compensation for making the
nights "dry" and to CUB to book the sound system. These arrangements
will be
made within the next few days.
If there are any questions/queries/points of interests/mistakes that need
pointing out/concerns/comments/etc/ that you'd like to make, please feel free
to use my contact info found earlier in this email. Thanks. Talk to you all
soon.
