Subject: Girls Fast Pitch

Hello to all Softball enthusiasts:

I was just surfing for some softball smarts

and thought I would ask for all comments.

I have been coaching girls softball for several years and this year we ran into some problems with the age guidelines.

We started a new league for 13-to 15 year olds.

This is Girls Fast Pitch Softball.

We have a player who will be 13 on August 31, but as of now she falls into the 10-12 year old league in which she has already played in for 2 years and made all stars both years.

If she plays in this 10-12 league again this year, she won't be eligible for all stars. This is a goal that all the players work toward.

So she wants to move up to the 13-15 year old league. She is in the 7th grade and 95% of her former teammates are also in the 7th grade.

So of course she wants to stay with the same group of players, be in a competitive league and work hard in order to make the All Stars.

I have to agree, this would be a competitive league and bring out the best in her. If she stays in the younger group there will be very lopsided scores and little competition.

Should she be allowed to move up or be forced to stay with the smaller girls and be bored all year and not be eligible for all stars.

Please answer as I would really appreciate hearing your own guidelines, Bylaws or just your comments.

Thank You Very Much,

Bill Perkins
