But European countries tax fuels at a high enough rate that they can pay for roads. So the price of fuel there more closely resembles true costs of auto use. As you are well aware, the cost of driving is effectively subsidized by the federal government in the USA. Our fuel costs do not have the taxes needed to maintain the infrastructure nor the additional costs due to vehicle air pollution. As a consequence, all Americans subsidize the cost of fuel here through their income tax. Of course this capitalist subsidy of the US transportation industry is direct government intervention and is nothing close tothe free-market economy that you say you support. Oh no, try to change any of the existing government suport structures by makingpollutors pay and you and your ilk are all up in arms about socialism and mis-use of taxes. The fact is, you guys are so brainwashed and close-minded that you can't even begin to see that you are just a revenue producer for the our US-fascist empire-builders. It's like raising chickens for thier eggs and eating them when their done laying.
