I strongly agree with you on the last statement, it is survival instinct and not "capitalism" or economics that will bring about the change in human nature that is necessary to deal with global warming and other catastrophes caused by our economic pollution. The survival instinct is collective, we will not survive if we deal with this in our "individualistic" way of life. Also, we will need to make greater reductions in toxic pollution because a world stressed out by global warming - climate change will be more vulnerable to toxic pollution.

shape its existance by measuring the amount of ice it
has, you will know it is changing. It has never
stopped changing."

This is true, but one important aspect of arctic sea ice is that it helps cool the earth, especially the northern hemisphere. Eliminate 2% of the surface of the northern hemisphere, which is 4% of the solid surface of the northern hem, and we greatly reduce the ability to cool ourselves. A loss of a few percent may not seem like much, but this is absolute temperature, which is around 450 degrees farenhieght, just a few percent change is alot of degrees, with devestating consequences. Water does not radiate heat nearly as well as land or ice, melting sea ice will greatly reduce the amount of heat radiated into space, in addition to absorbing more sunlight.
