I was out cleaning the dead stuff from the middle of our weeping pussy willow tree. ( they are a small tree) and found a old nest that had one pierced egg in it. The outer part of the nest was made with twigs and the inner part of dried grass. The book i have says song sparrows lay a greenish egg with brown spots however this egg is lt blue with brown spots. I know its a song sparrow nest as they have nested in the crown of this little tree for the past five years however they did not nest there this year i suspect it needed some of the dead stuff cleared out and that is what i was doing . a song sparrow is a little brownish bird with stripes on its breast it has a dark blotch in the middle of the stripes on its breast. The egg is not large as song bird eggs go a bit smaller than a robins egg.
