Subject: Different writers do it different ways

Some folks recommend not even worrying about chapter divisions till you get the whole thing finished. If you feel like its getting hard to control, that might be a good idea.

There are also some good resources out there that have really helped me. One was a cheapo paperback by Stephen King called 'on writing'. Another was 'Manuscript Makeover'. A lot of books on writing just repeat the same stuff, so one or two usually does the job. They all tend to repeat the same easily outlined points. A few disagree on a few points, and some writers do things completely differently. But if you think looking to resources by people in the field will help, I encourage it. I read a lot of em.
