I am having a new experience, in place of a drama. We had a flood caused by stupid tenants. I dried all out, but obviously you have to keep airing the place for a while after as I told them many times. Instead the guy moved in his disgusting smelly furniture and assorted debris from months in storage, and brought a good dose of mold with him. I think the guy was a bit funny in the head. He never went out and always kept the windows closed, and glared when he saw you. It was like living with a troll on the ground floor. When they finally moved out they skimmed the surface, but had left dirt and mold everywhere and a horrific reek from rancid grease poured down the sinks. It was totally gross. Used to just having students for the Uni year and not having people dig in and stay for four years. Of course you can't get rid of them with rental laws. Swore never to rent again.

Meanwhile, son no. 2 audio studio business dropped like a stone when the US economy crashed and hit that field badly in Vancouver. He came here to get temporary job and help fix up the mess.

On offchance, I phoned the insurance company. Never claimed anything before. Response was immediate and incredibly helpful.

Upshot was they found asbestos in the lino under the current one. Son and I were doing that awful job of getting it up. Then there was drama! Whitesuits and plastic shower rooms built outside, froggy masks and scary notices. They moved all son's stuff out, and super-scrubbed top to bottom. Insurance company is paying for everything and even waived the $500 deductible because of the work we had already done in mitigation. New flooring, total repaint, new baseboards, new built-in vanity in bathroom, replacing things that were exposed.

And putting son up in a downtown hotel throughout.

This started just after New Year's, and we are now into carpet, trim and moving back his stuff in 2 weeks.

With everything you hear about stingy insurance companies, this experience has just blown us away!

Little grandson is 1 now. Delightful little chap doing well.
