Subject: Flags....

Boy! If we can't create divisiness, we're just not happy!

After most of the world showed both respect and sympathy -- on their own -- some of us still want to force us down everybody else's throat! Makes one want to say, "Children, can't you get along?"

I guess I don't know enough about it -- help me with this -- but as I understand it, we want a special display of the WTC flag in the Olympic Procession. I thought all the athletes carry their flag in the procession, so why don't ours carry that particular flag? What am I missing here?

On the one hand, the Olympics provide an illusion (or a fact) that we are a world community; then we, like some kind of well armed Lucy, have to redo things acording to some feel good thing. We like to stay rooted in past events, but the world doesn't.

Consider this, many of these countries have put a huge amount of effort and faith into their teams, despite crushing poverty, unrest, political oppression -- all sorts of things. Many of these countries have been involved in war and have very real experiences with the total and utter destruction of war, yet they just want to compete. Still, like some sort of crazy person, we seem to need to inflict us and our obsessions on everyone else.
