I have a challeng for you guys...something that I've been praying about in my own life for a while now and since last weekend I thought it be a good time to talk about it. Thanks to Jason, I also had something happen to me that will help me explain it to you.
Okay, so last night after the bonfire a bunch of us went to IHOP and there were about fourteen of us sitting at a big long table and annoying everyone else there by being incredibly loud--there were some talkative syrup pitchers and hand puppets at our table--any way, my phone started ringing at about 1:15am and my caller ID said "private". The person on the other end claimed to be a guy in one of my classes, and it so did not sound like this guy. So here I am wondering why this nut would be calling me at 1:15 in the morning and thinking, "Man this sounds like Jason." And sure enough, I look down the table and there's Jason, crouched down, talking on his cell phone! Then everybody laughed at me for not catching it sooner.
So, yeah, it was a joke, but sometimes, that's what it's like when God is calling us. We all know that He doesn't use cell phones (though if he does, I'm sure He's got a better plan than with SunCom)--but He is calling us...CONSTANTLY! And sometimes we don't know who it is, or what He wants, or why. Sometimes, He's right at the other end of the table and we just don't see Him. Sometimes, (pardon my upcomming dorkiness) we look on the caller ID of life and we just don't answer cause we're not in the mood. Sound familiar?
God is calling you! The retreat was a way for y'all to get hooked up, get to know each other, and start talking. You might not have been answering your phone before, so God had to say...BAM! Chris was right, it was a wake up CALL.
A call to love and serve God, a call to love and serve your neighbor. Don't hang up yet, because He's not through with you. He never will be really. He will use each and every one of you to do amazing things if you listen to Him.
Imagine where you'd be if Mrs. Janice and Mrs. Saretta had not answered His call. Two people. That's it. TWO. That's how this family we have now began. All because they said "yes, God, I'm here." (To me, that thought is like BAM!) Now, if you've never talked to either one of them about it, I must tell you that they were scared to answer. God doesn't give us the easy way, He gives us the BEST way. Look at the result of that one "yes."
So here's your challenge for the rest of lent. Keep fighting your cravings for carbonated beverages, fast food and chocolate, but fulfill another craving--that craving for Jesus in your life. Don't just refrain from things you enjoy, but push yourself to love new things... new people. Help someone, smile, work harder in school, share, make new friends with someone you've ignored or pushed away... there's so much more for us than what we sometimes limit ourselves to out of fear. Put God on your speed dial, and everyday wake up, give Him a call and say, "I'm here God, talk to me. Use me in your plan, I'm here."
So, He's calling YOU. PICK UP THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
