Help save the Hill of Tara from development! -- Concerned Irish Dancer, 22:06:19 07/29/07 Sun
Please sign the online petition to save grounds of Tara! Visit: http://www.petitiononline.com/Temair/petition.html . People from any country can sign!
Here's what the petition says:
"To: An Taoiseach, The Irish Prime Minister
I wish to protest the planned M3 motorway through the ancient grounds of Tara. As you are aware, expert archaeologists in Ireland and internationally have pointed out that Tara is not just constituted by the actual hill, but also by the surrounding landscape, which is extraordinarily rich in archaeological monuments. This is precisely the area the planned M3 will cut through, only 1 km from the hill itself.
You are also no doubt aware that the Tara landscape is recognised as a site of not only Irish, but world importance. In particular, it holds a significant place in European cultural heritage. I therefore believe that the Irish Government has a duty to act as the respectful custodian of Tara, and all other ancient Irish archaeological sites, and to protect them for posterity and for the appreciation of present and future citizens of not just Ireland, but of all the world.
I ask you to personally intervene in this issue, and to see to it that one of the alternative routes available for the M3 motorway is chosen instead. I ask you to ensure that Tara remains completely undisturbed and that it is treated with the respect due to both a national and international cultural treasure, "
Thank you for your help!

Trinity Irish Dance Company: Audition/Workshop (San Francisco Oireachtas) -- Michael Carr, 11:21:00 11/14/05 Mon
11/14/2005
Dear Dancer,
The Trinity Irish Dance Company will be holding auditions at this year’s Western U.S. Regional Championships. New company members will be considered for our 2006 spring tour, and beyond. We would like to take this opportunity to individually invite you to participate.
Ellen Gahl, Rehearsal Director, and several company members are conducting auditions at Double Tree Hotel (835 Airport Blvd, Burlingame, CA 94010) We will be meeting, working out, and giving dancers an idea of what TIDC is all about. We may have immediate positions available but the main focus of these sessions is to get to know the dancers that are interested in the Trinity Irish Dance Company for the future.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, November 19th from 7:00Pto 9:00P or ½ hour after completion of results. We encourage all dancers to attend one of the auditions even if you have attended an audition in the past. We would like to take this opportunity to see you again and update our files. You should contact me via email at dmahoney04d@aol.com or call773.549.6135 ext. 15 and leave a message to confirm attendance or obtain more details. However, walk-ins are welcome so please encourage all of your friends that are interested in the company to attend as well.
While dancers under the age of 17 do not tour with the company, we are happy to begin a dialogue, and keep a file on dancers from 14 years and up. If you will not be attending this year’s Oireachtas you may call or email me about sending an audition video. It is also possible to set up a meeting with the company if we happen to be in your hometown. Audition Videos can be sent to:

It has been another outstanding year for the Trinity Irish Dance Company. Last year we had a month long tour of Japan and an ambitious spring tour with “Different Drums of Ireland,” the hot, new percussive Northern Irish Band. In addition to the ground breaking collaboration with Different Drums, the company offered several premiers including The Black Rose and Goddess. The company’s work has been described as “Intoxicating” by the New York Times, “Awesome” by the L.A. Times and the Washington Post said, “Trinity mounted an astonishing attach!” The integrity and breadth of the company’s work is unrivaled.
The Trinity Irish Dance Company is the world’s only nonprofit professional Irish Dance Company, performing and touring nationally and internationally. The academic career of company members is one of the company’s primary focuses. The performing arts and this Company provide a wonderful balance for extraordinary young people between their academics and the arts.
Thank you for your incredible contribution to this beautiful art form and we look forward to talking with you.

World Champions choice of shoe -- Craig Hullachan, 07:21:28 06/10/05 Fri
Newsflash
'The World Champions have now spoken'
In the article featured on the World Champions in the Irish Dancing Magazine during June and July 2005, the World Champions were asked what their favourite light shoe was. 8 out of 11 World Champions said that they preferred Hullachan as their Light Shoe. Naturally we are over the moon in getting such a recommendation by these superb dancers. For me, as designer, it really makes all my work and research worthwhile. That kind of support can not be bought. It only happens when a product delivers the edge that dancers need. Hullachan is famous for its protective elements and the new Hullachan AP is the results of two years work to improve dancers safety while looking wonderful.
(Source: Irish Dancing Magazine interviews June & July 2005.)"
(ps. we think that the only reason the other three are not in this group is because they have not tried the new Hullachan AP. !)
Lots of love, Craig

The doctor says she cans till dance on it, but we're trying to figure out which hardshoe would be best for her at this point: either a hard sole, a medium flexi leather sole, or super flexi. Does anyone have some knowledge on the subject?

We are thinking of setting up our own display group but we would like to hear about other groups who have done this. Can you tell us anything about getting the costumes (do you have more than two sets of costumes), fees (do you charge per dancer and do you ask for travel expenses) How much are people willing to pay and anything else you can think of. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Missing Solo Dress -- Carol Ruhm, 08:29:57 07/13/03 Sun
I am very sad to say that the solo dress that I put up for sale at Nationals was stolen. It is a beautiful Cranberry pinkish-red with aqua and silver designs, approximate child's size 12. It was last seen around 4:00 pm on Sunday. Below is the link to a picture of the dress. PLEASE, if you have any information on this dress, please email me. Hotel security is investigating, but if the dress is returned or paid for, no questions will be asked. I'm hoping it is just a dreadful mistake. Thanks for any help anyone can give. Picture can be seen at - http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/carolruhm/vwp?.dir=/&.src=ph&.dnm=missing+solo+dress.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/bc/carolruhm/lst%3f%26.dir=/%26.src=ph%26.view=t

McElvogue Trainer Festival of Irish Dance -- Directions to feis 12th/13th July 03, 11:32:16 07/07/03 Mon
Sorry but due to a South Tyneside MBC ruling we are unable to erect direct signs to this weekend feis: McElvogue Trainer Festival of Irish Dancing, Brinkburn Comprehensive School, South Shields, Tyne & Wear. As such we are instead placing directions on this and assorted other message boards, please accept our apologies for this but the Council only advised this afternoon that they would not allow any signs in the borough.
From the A1 or A19 follow the signs for South Shields; these will lead you to the A194 Leam Lane and the main route into the town. Follow the A194 or signs for South Tyneside District Hospital and Accident Centre until you come to the Simonside roundabout, easy to spot the 1st roundabout with traffic lights on it. At the Simonside roundabout turn right onto the A1300 John Reid Road, again follow signs for the hospital.
Follow the A1300 John Reid Road past the 1st set of traffic lights, go over the 1st roundabout, at the 2nd roundabout (Big green Lease Direct garage on your left) turn left onto Boldon Lane, go past the garage, ambulance station etc, go across the 1st roundabout (by the pub) at the next roundabout turn right into Harton Lane (another pub!). Follow the road down ¼ of mile, over the roundabout, follow the road to the hospital.
2 options:
Option 1: Take the 1st right after the hospital and turn into McAnany Avenue, the school is on your left, follow the road to the 3rd set of gates on your left, this is a teachers car park, please feel free to park there for the feis.
Option 2: continue down Harton Lane past St. Wilfreds school on your left, on your right there is a turning for Brinkburn CA, turn into the lane leading to the CA, there are 2 car parks, again feel free to use them for the feis. If you come to yet another roundabout and another pub (The Grey Hen) you have passed your turning, go back on yourself and this time the CA entrance is on your left.
Entrance to the feis is via either the main school entrance or via the CA
Again sorry about not being able to put up signs (all printed and laminated) but we have to obey the ruling of the towns council.

Sites that aren't the ones you are looking for! -- Lauren, 21:06:17 04/13/02 Sat
Recently I've noticed a few irish dance sites that either are no longer an irish dance site and is now a porn site or a URL which, if the s is left out, can lead to a porn site.
The first is the old Celtic Art Wear site... click on any links to that and you'll most likely find yourself at some persons webcam site... we don't want to know what she does on there!
Secondly is the site www.hardshoes.com - this is the irish site. A pretty good site too I might add. But accidentally leave off the s and type in www.hardshoe.com and you'll find yourself in a porn site.
This is a big issue - what about our young dancers who are on the net??? I know many other sites which are like other things - (ie: the 'ten' tv station site opposed to the 'ten' porn site - without the .au it can be misleading!) but its really sad to see sites which appear to have something to do with irish dancing when you click on the link or type in the URL really having nothing to do with it at all... whats worse is that it lead to areas which children definately should not be exposed to.
Any agreence with this?? What do you think??

Hi, my name is Jessica and I work for a company called Hardshoe.com. As a new sales site we have lots of work yet to do but I think it would be worth checking us out now. Have you noticed that the price of socks keeps climbing and is now near $7.00! As Irish Dancers ourselves, we think this is ridiculous! Our socks are currently priced at $4.75 a pair INCLUDING SHIPPING! And while the manufacturer has recently increased our cost we will only be increasing the price to $4.99 a pair STILL INCLUDING SHIPPING! This will be happening on May 15th so get them now at the lower price! Also, buy more, save more. We also have great deals on CDs and ornaments and will soon have bloomers, tights and shoes – including a new, patent pending leather and neoprene padded ghillie by Feis-Mates that feels Oh, So Good! We are also always open for suggestions. So check us out at Hardshoe.com or email me at Jessica@hardshoe.com .

Australian Irish Dance Forum -- Lauren, 04:17:36 04/13/02 Sat
I kinda feel a little bad about advertsising on someone else's board, but this is a site which can help dancers... so I'm hoping its okay.
Its called the Australian Irish Dance Forum - its created for dancers in australia, but anyone anywhere is most welcome to join and contribute.
Recently a section was added - the 'feature article' section. I'm encouraging dancers (from ANYWHERE!! lol) to write an article or something alike on anything irish dance related - and if its suitable (in other words isn't abusive or putting down to anyone) it can be posted for others to see on the site and comment on. I ask you guys to take the challenge too - if you'd like to contribute something, email me or visit the site.
This moths article is on 'How-to-Dance-When-You-Can't! - A survival guide for the injured irish dancer.'
I'd encourage you all to check it out.. its a view from personal experience lol
Hope to see some of you there!!!
Lauren

Websites! -- Fiona, 22:19:15 03/18/02 Mon
*Updates!*
My site, Dancing on Dreams, (http://geocities.com/irishdancers1) has had several new updates.
The dresses section has also been running a little short of dresses, so many have been selling! If you have a used dress, shoes, kilt or other dance item, come visit my site. You can then email me with the info on what you have to sell and I'll create an ad for you...free of charge. http://geocities.com/irishdancers5. Occasionally geocities will shut down this page when too many people try to access it at one time. I appreciate your patience when this happens...its very annoying I know, but please be sure to come back at a later time. :)
(Side note.....I recently got my first solo dress!! I'd love to hear what everyone thinks...pictures located at http://geocities.com/irishdancers8/mydress.html)
Bravenet is now back up and running and so my links page now works....but, I lost a great many links. I need you guys to help me add more!! You can do it yourself, and add as many as you like....simply visit http://pub35.bravenet.com/freelink/show.php?usernum=2996160248&cpv=1 - and click "Add your Link" at the top. After you hit send, the new link will appear immediately and you can add more, if you wish.
Judy Tatum's site for Irish dancing solo dresses (www.thebestdressedltd.net) has been updated. Irish dresses section totally redone with smaller pictures/thumbnails for faster loading. When clicked, each picture blows up really large and shows all the fantastic detail of each dress. Come check it out!

[irish dance debate board] -- moderator, 06:55:04 12/20/01 Thu
I created the Irish Dance Debate Board because I don't want boards like this one to go the same way as KDrew's - the way I see it, if we discuss the more 'explosive' (so to speak) topics on
http://www.voy.com/61742/
then we can keep this board and others like it friendly and peaceful. Just a note: Yes, it's a debate board, but it will still be lightly moderated and no profanity or personal attacks will be tolerated.

Treble Reels -- Ali, 15:10:16 12/17/01 Mon
At a feis (The Feis in the Desert for example) when there is a Treble Reel competition, how many steps do you do? This is one just for Prelim. dancers, not everyone, so maybe there will be more steps than if there were a combind competition. How many steps have people done at feis in the past? Thanks!

Just so you know, I have created a website to go along with the message board! The address is www.geocities.com/LetThereBePeaceInID/ and sorry for such a long name, but LetThereBePeace and Let_There_Be_Peace were taken. And there's a link at the top of the forum, which certainly makes things a lot easier :o)

Welcome! -- The Moderator, 22:00:47 12/12/01 Wed
Hello! Welcome to the board. Please make an effort to keep this peaceful or go elsewhere, that is all I ask. I will make every effort to keep this a place free from offensive, hurtful remarks and other stuff often found on other boards. For my reasons, I will moderate anonymously. Have fun posting!
