Well Nick certainly seems to have done his homework on Korean culture. I am glad that he has produced something on Shamenism. Its an interesting point about women being given an oportunity for leadership, (denied to them by confucianism) through becoming Shaminist priests. Saying it is at its most influential among women, is laying oneself open to the charge of sexism. One thing I noticed during my time in Korea was that it was at its strongest by far in rural areas. It is a natural religion and farmers are close to nature. The shaman exercises considerable power. Confucianism is often cited as the reason behind the power of Korean pastors and church leaders. I think shamanism is another strong influence too, because as late as the 1960s Korea was still largely an agricultural economy. Some korean church members still regard the prayer of the pastor as being more powerful, and more likely to be answered than the prayer of a lay man or woman. This could be one of the influences of shamanism
