Subject: Biblical application of Medicine
In reply to: Chris 's message, "Medicine" on 16:48:51 12/05/04 Sun

While we do not find direct hints in the Scriptures regarding "take this medicine" or "don't touch that medicine", we can clearly see two things:

- Luke was a physician. Even after his conversion, he practiced this job, and it was unto the furtherance of the Gospel.
As such, medical help in general is acceptible in the sight of the Bible.

- Paul encouraged Timothy to drink wine sometimes "for his stomach" - the wine here also served a medical purpose. As such, the imbibing of substances that increase your overall health are very well acceptible in the Bible, even encouraged.

So, go to a doctor, and let them prescribe you some medicine and if it helps you, stick to it.

And, like Chris said, don't get fooled by a "wannabe spirituality" that tells you if you merely work hard enough for the Lord, He'll take your illness away (remember, even Paul's "thorn" wasn't taken from him- was Paul "too lazy"? )

That would be my advice.

In Christ,
Mike K.
