UBF seems to have a hidden doctrine of overpraising women. Everytime the passage on which the Sunday message was based included Jesus' mother, Mary, Mary and Martha, James and John's mother, Mary Magdelene, the women who followed Jesus, or any other female, my director transition from the scripture regarding the woman to a paragraph of praise for his wife. On the following Friday, all of the husbands within our ministry would include much praise of their wives and the director's wife. All of the women in our UBF would be praised as great mothers of prayer who bare with their self-centered, lazy, insensitive husbands and the proud and rude American shepherds and sheep.

This overpraise of women is even more dramatic during conference time. I remember one conference in which a messenger sang his wife's name at least three times as he exalted her as the greatest woman. By the way, I talk to a couple of young wives who said they did not like to be overpraised in public by their husbands. They would prefer that leaders not direct their husbands to praise them in messages.

Another messenger when he gave the message on John 4 about the woman at the well, contrasted the woman at the well with Sarah Barry. The woman at the well was descibed as unspiritual, adulterous, and sinsick, while Barry was described as the great, loving, sacrifical spiritual mother of our generation.
