This is from my original post. "Bill begins Bible study with a Christian background. Bill tells Shepherd Peter that he wants to be an English teacher in China to serve as a short-term missionary after he leaves college, then come back to the USA to get a PhD and and then pray about whether he should be a long-term missionary. Bill would like to devote his life to mission, so he does not plan to marry. When Bill begins to share testimonies every week, Bill talks a lot about his prayer to be an English teacher in China and desire to get a PhD that God will use for long-term mission."

The reason that Bill goes along with Shepherd Peter's direction is because of the close relationship built up through one-to-one Bible study and testimony sharing. For the first year or so, the coworkers praised and encouraged Bill about his prayer topics and desires. Thus, Bill has been conditioned to beleive that Shepherd Peter and the other coworkers genuinely care about him and are praying that Bill may be a missionary to China. However, they are secretly praying that Bill be raised as a UBF shepherd and marry a Korean missionary by faith. When Shepherd Peter begins to challenge Bill to change his direction, Bill genuinely believes that Shepherd Peter wants Bill to do God's will.

Rememeber the coworkers. They also will influence Bill during this time. Bill also trusts the other coworkers as well. If Bill is uncertain about Shepherd Peter's new direction Bill will discuss the issue with the other coworkers. Of course, the other coworkers will encourage Bill to obey Shepherd Peter and maybe even suppliment with a story or two about how they were reluctant to obey their shepherd at first but when they obeyed absolutely God blessed them greatly. Then, Bill is encouraged to obey, thinking that this is what God wants for his life.

In Christ,

PECAS
